Oracle 9i install: Error in invoking target install of makefile

I receive an error while installing Oracle 9i:

Error in invoking target install of makefile

Furthermore:
$ whoami

$ echo $ORACLE_HOME
/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0

$ pwd
/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/sqlplus/lib
$ ll

What is going on here?

Regards,
Chris

This message is not very informative as it only reports that a problem HAS occurred but not WHICH one exactly. The make.log file, which is written in $ORACLE_HOME/install, may contain more information. Otherwise you can trigger a more accurate error message by restarting the relinking process:

  1. Log on as oracle user.

  2. Execute the following command:

    make -F <makefile> <target>

You can find <makefile> and <target> in the error message of the runInstaller here the path of the makefile may be skipped if you have switched to the relevant directory prior to the error message.
For example, a typical call is "make -f ins_sqlplus.mk ioracle".

I guess that you should get the following error when relinking manually:

ld: Unsatisfied symbol "gethrtime" in

General checklist for troubleshooting

a) Incorrect installation of Oracle software
b) Incorrectly set environment
c) Missing operating system patches
d) Incorrect operating system setup
e) Missing file permissions
f) Incorrectly installed C compiler or Linker
g) Inadequate operating system parameters
h) Check with the supplier of the operating system

Thanx.

I already found out that the PA-RISC system is a 32bits and hence does not support Oracle 9i

Too bad.

Chris

Hmm, that's a pity.
Maybe you just have a 32-bit kernel while the system itself is capable of 64-bit?

Which machine is it?

No it is'nt unfortunately. It's the HP 9000 D210. Just wanted to use it for my own 'test lab'. Now I need to install OVO 7.x cause that is working with Oracle 8i which works on hpux 32bit.

Any idea where I can find that? The software.hp.com does not provide any evaluation software for this.

That's right, the D210 is 32-bit. From D*70 onwards (PA-8000) you can have 64-bit.

Unfortunately not. My recommendation would be to get a cheap HP Visualize C-Class workstation (from C3000 onwards), to get it working on modern releases.
