Optimizing OSX

Hi forum,

I'm administrating a workstation/server for my lab and I was wondering how to optimize OSX. I was wondering what unnecessary background tasks I could kick off the system so I free up as much memory and cpu power.

Other optimization tips are also welcome (HD parameters, memory settings etc etc..)

I googled around but tips are far and few between... so any help is welcome.

Cheers,
Koen

Which version of the OS are you running? Upgrade to the latest rev of Leopard (10.5) if you can, it does a pretty good job of not starting unnecessary processes. Are you running the Server version of the OS?

Run software up date and jump to leopard 10.5.5
