null modem serial cable for server testing

HI all,

i still have a problem when using null modem to see the output from my server(sun ultra en 3000).

i followed the instruction from the internet, but it is not working.

  1. i am using db9(5 4, 2 rows,put in laptop serial port) and db25(13 12, 2 rows,put in (A) server serial port).
  2. turn on the laptop, and using hyperterminal with
    configuration :
    bit/sec --> 9600
    data bit --> 8
    parity --> none
    stop bit--> 1
    flow control --> hardware or xOn Xoff( i try hardware and xOn off, but still not working)
  3. hyperterm connected.
  4. turn on the sun ultra enterprise 3000
    and i don't see anything on the hyperterm after 2 / 3 minutes from starting the server.

something wrong with my understanding..
please help me out ...

thanks...

For what it's worth, IMHO hyperterminal is worthless. Try using Teraterm instead - it has really good vt100 and vt220 emulation, serial port support, and sane defaults.

Is there a keyboard plugged into the 3000 ?
If so remove it and try again.

You should not have any problem seeing output in hyperterminal, and changing to teraterm won't change that.

Hi,

i don;t have any keyboard attached to sun ultra ent 3000.

i used a cable modem, but i am not sure it is the right cable..
i am using this cable to connect from pc(com1 or com2, DB9, female) to modem (DB25,male) for dialup connection to internet.
is it the right cable?

i try teraterm and set it to com1, baudrate 9600, xon/xoff or hardware, but nothing come up in teraterm windows...

i put db25 on port A Sun server.
please help...

thanks
