I've recently published a set of tools that allow you to continue to use the ypwhich, ypcat and ypmatch tools in an environment where NIS maps have been migrated to LDAP using the RFC2307 schema.
Traditionally in such an environment, only the NSS functionality is LDAP-enabled, meaning that legacy scripts you may have written that rely on the 'yp' tools have to be re-written to use getent or ldapsearch.
With yp2ldap, this requirement goes away, and those legacy scripts can be left alone.
