NIM Master as Mgmt Server

Guys, I need your help

I got a requirement from a cUstomer asking for a specific design

He wants to use the NIM Master as one single mgmt server and access the nodes maintained by it there by the accounting is in one single server for all the nodes

Note:- Direct login to the nodes will be disabled

Users have to login to the NIM Master / Mgmt Server using their ID and then start a session to the nodes they want to work on.

Is there any feature in NIM to do this ?

I would tell the customer that the NIM server is off limits, period, and if s/he wants an access server s/he should consider buying one - PERIOD!

A NIM server is IMHO much too sensible and too important for the technical aspects of the NIM clients operation to give quasi-public access to. It is a system where only the Sysadmins should have access, nobody else.

If the customer is not willing to buy the necessary hardware maybe s/he doesn't really need to services provided by the system or - at least - they are not as important as s/he claims.

IT is like a music box: put money in above and you get music out below. Save the money and all you get is silence.

I hope this helps.

This functionality is what i called an "access server". You could achieve this with various tools: LDAP, Kerberos, DCE, etc..

It is probably too much a "soft-issue" and therefore way above thhe scope of a board like this to help you select one of these tools (or maybe come up with a home-cooked solution, depending on the details of your requirements) here over the net. I'd suggest you either do the work yourself or hire some consultant who does it for you.

I hope this helps.
