Oh thanx Mr. Perderabo....
But for linux i can't edit /etc/passwd without knowing a root passwrod......and cant boot my server too..
is there any other option to recover the root password ???
You have posted your question in a solaris forum. Tell us exactly what distro you are using and maybe someone who knows it can help you. But if the box won't even boot, you have a real problem there.
Actually...i need to know the method both for a Linux and SUN OS server (both r text based). And SUN OS version is 5.8 using a SUN Netra 440
you have to boot the system using cdrom/dvd to single user and remove the encrypted passwd from the /etc/shadow file
well....can u tell me the details how to boot and select single user ?
for linux
try
linux rescue
