I have recently aquired an E280R chassis, that is one of the first E280R chassis so it still features old fan block from 420R (540-4434).
Unfortunately I have 900Mhz X7009A CPUs to go into this machine and those need a better fan block (540-5088) because they do overheat :(.
Could someone who currently owns a E280R with 540-5088 fan cage tell me which fans are used there? It is easely visible if you open the top cover.

I�ve recently also had your problem on a SF280R. The customer wanted to upgrade his 750Mhz => 1,2Ghz CPUs. I changed the Fan Assembly to the new one, but I didnt noticed any differences between the fans. Both have 3x 120mm fans, mine where also the same model and manufacturer !
technically I would say that there isnt a big differene between the two fan assemblies.
When I have the next SF280R at work or at a customer site, I will post the info here.
