Merging filesets for OS Upgrade

I have a complete set of AIX install media for 5307 TL1. I also have on DVD the upgrade files compiled by IBM to upgrade a server from AIX 5305 to 5308TL2.

If I run an upgrade from the IBM supplied DVD (smit upgrade_all) then the upgrade fails complaining about a large number of missing filesets. The IBM support tech tells me that these missing filesets are on the 5307TL1 install media. I believe him but how do I merge the files from the 5307TL1 install cd set with the 5308TL2 DVD which only has bff files on it?

Is there another (smarter) way of doing this?

Why don't you upgrade with the 5307 TL1 first then do the upgrade to 5308TL2?

Just copy the various sets of filesets into one directory, change to it and run "inutoc .", that is all. Then fire up "installp" with the respective options.

A maintenance level (or a technical level, for that matter) is simply a set of filesets but for installation purposes each fileset is treated individually. Therefore you can create arbitrary collections of filesets by simply throwing them together, so to say.

I hope this helps.
