on AIX, when creating an imap user, should we create mbox file? How? Is it a standard mbox file template?

IMAP usually uses Maildir (directory structure), not Mbox (flat file) format. As soon as an account receives its first mail, a Maildir structure is created under $HOME/Maildir, provided the mail server (dovecot, postfix, exim4 etc.) is configured accordingly to deliver mails in that format.
