I am working on a linux install to a desktop pc and will configure this onto our main server once happy with the functions etc.
I am actually a HP and AIX sys admin and was looking for the best ways to:
create a bootable file that can be copied to dvd-rw / cd-rw or to dds
be able to cluster 2 linux servers
online cloning / replication between 2 linux servers.
create a bootable file that can be copied to dvd-rw / cd-rw or to dds
Meaning how you can create a bootable linux installation disc? Please explain your question some more....
be able to cluster 2 linux servers
This is depending on what the reason is for your clustering need.... cluster a webserver for performance reasons, cluster for failover, cluster for CPU power for large calculations? Can you please tell us the reason why you want to build a cluster? What you can do for a start is check this website: http://www.redhat.com/software/rha/cluster/
online cloning / replication between 2 linux servers.
There are quite some projects out there that can help you, you can even code your own it is in basic not that hard to write a replication agent for linux. Just google for this subject you can also take a look at: http://www.cs.bgu.ac.il/~srfs/
is there a similar tool on linux - is storix the way forward?
the other question ...
we are using linux on our site as monitoring servers running nagios and IBM director, I want to setup:
2 servers, one prod the other standby, if the prod server should fail or the DR server continues monitoring - to the level of the server crashing or the monitoring apps fail?
as mentioned I am pretty new to linux however understand technologies that that I can use with other O/S's. I will check out your links and information.
