Link Aggregation

Hi there

I have a requirement to provide failover to our customer boxes in case of interface / switch failure, I have been looking at Solaris Link Aggregation with LACP and I wanted to ask a question

Ive seen multiple websites that say the following

Does this also mean that if the switches are trunked together that you still cant use 2 switches ??. One absolute requirement of this project is that I use 2 seperate switches, so if this isnt possible, then Ill have to look into IPMP or something else

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Gary

I have never tried that, but I would expect it work. The adjective "separate" would not apply to trunked switches. If you try it, let us know if it works and which protocol was used to trunk the switches.

hello,

that is a wrong solution.
you want to provide a failover link - but you suggest a link or port aggregation.
those 2 are very different.
-- do read/google more about these 2.

if you dont want to waste your time :

  • 2 server NICs into 1 or 2 switches.
  • put different IP in the same subnet (or in 1 VLAN).

or :

  • 2 server NICs into 2 switch.
  • put different IP in different subnets (or in 2 VLANs).

done.

cheers...
