Is it possible to use zvol from SAN LUN to install LDOM OS ? I 'm using following VDS from my service domain
VDS
NAME LDOM VOLUME DEVICE
primary-vds0 primary iso sol-10-u6-ga1-sparc-dvd.iso
cdrom /data03/sol-10-u6-ga1-sparc-dvd.iso
zvol /dev/zvol/rdsk/newpool/VSAN/vol2
and when i boot my Ldom1 i get following error
{0} ok boot /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0 -s
Boot device: /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0 File and args: -s
Bad magic number in disk label
ERROR: /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0: Can't open disk label package

To keep the forums high quality for all users, please take the time to format your posts correctly.
First of all, use Code Tags when you post any code or data samples so others can easily read your code. You can easily do this by highlighting your code and then clicking on the # in the editing menu. (You can also type code tags
```text
and
```
by hand.)
Second, avoid adding color or different fonts and font size to your posts. Selective use of color to highlight a single word or phrase can be useful at times, but using color, in general, makes the forums harder to read, especially bright colors like red.
Third, be careful when you cut-and-paste, edit any odd characters and make sure all links are working property.
Hi. i dont think its related to that volume from zfs.
ex:/
host1# zpool create -f tank1 c2t42d1
host1# zfs create -V 100m tank1/myvol
host1# zfs list
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
tank1 100M 43.0G 24.5K /tank1
tank1/myvol 22.5K 43.1G 22.5K -
Configure a service exporting tank1/myvol as a virtual disk:
host1# /opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldm add-vdiskserverdevice /dev/zvol/rdsk/tank1/myvol zvol@primary-vds0
Add the exported disk to domain (domain2 in this example):
yep i think its not related to zfs as i tried adding a disk slice too .. from internal disk but i gives me following error
{0} ok boot cdrom - install
Boot device: /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@2 File and args: - install

Do you what could be the problem i 'm new to Ldoms , i will appriciate if any one can help me in this.
fugitive, i asked above ..
give much more details about your system and how u configured your LDoms.
otherwise i cant say anything, according to behaviour of startup process, something wong with your configuration, certainly with assignment of devices to LDoms.
I see it seems ok with your own domain , but not with your control domain.
in LDoms control domain can use the same operating system, i mean your global OS, but not guest domains. thats why you must assign free disk, that is available for new installation of OS for guest domains in future. in your situation you have assigned /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0 ..
with assigning disk to primary (control) domain your going to give disk service to your logical domains in future. hence they need free available disks for new installation of OS.
is that disk free and not active.??? I suspect that is your system disk :))
let me see your format command result as well as df -h.
Ok then fugitive,
u r saying that mentioned device absolutely free and ready for use.
Try relabel it. Certainly that disk. Check is it available on system level.
Try create fs,mount etc.
One more moment look at obp which devices are available there.does the path of that disk visible on obp.I mean on #ok prompt
Samar, the issue was resolved after i assinged the complete disk to the LDOM the same disk. I 'm initiating another thread for a related issue to same LDOM hope you can help me there too. Thanx for your efforts and time. :o
Where you find that for exporting zfs volumes, you need to have it "sliced", e.g.
# ldm set-vdsdev options=slice vol2@primary-vds0
Details:
By default ZFS volumes are now exported as full disk instead of being exported as single slice disk.
This is causing the problem you describe if you were exporting a raw ZFS volume.
