I've noted the following within /var/log/messages, any idea how to check whether they are related to hardware/driver problems, pls?

Looks like a combination of a hard drive which doesn't support SMART (I'm guessing here) and perhaps Re: Re: Problem while inserting pciehp (PCI Express Hot-plug) driver (guessing some more).
