thanks for your kind assistance. I have a rhel6.4 server. After I did an update, the server does not reboot. Also user logins take for ever.
Please any help on this matter will be appreciated .

Did you expect or ask for a reboot?
When you say that user logins take for ever, does that imply eternity? I would expect a time-out before that. If you are suggesting that an SSH or Telnet connection takes 30-60 seconds to prompt for login credentials, then I have come across this before. We worked out that the connection (which appears to the OS as only an IP address) is getting resolved so the names can be logged/used rather than IP addresses. We had a DNS server fail and the lookup would take 30 seconds or so to timeout before a login could proceed. There were no other obvious symptoms.
Does this fit your issue? Check for this by running an nslookup of your PC IP address from the unix server.
If this is it, then we have something to work on.

Also, Check if the NIC are delay'ing traffic...
check for delay parameters in network configuration file..
