Installing RHEL over Windows 7 or 8

Hi,

Sorry if this is an incorrect place for this question but I haven't been able to find any answers by searching the forums or on google. I am in the market for a new HP Z420 workstation and HP wants a lot more money for one with the HP Linux Installer kit vs. the exact same configuration in Windows 7 or 8 64 bit. Is there some hidden architectural difference between the workstations preventing me from just installing RHEL from my own discs over the Windows operating system?

Thanks.

Russ

The only issue I could think of would be working around the Secure Boot feature.

And to do that, you can either install a version of Linux with support for Secure Boot, or just go into the BIOS and disable it and install any flavor of Linux you wish.

You should be able to instal RHEL without any problems. Just disable Secure Boot as RHEL5 and RHEL6 use a modified GRUB 0.97.
