Installation

Hai Friends

How can i instal only the linux kernel in a system.

Thanks in advance
Collins

Hmm... I don't really understand what you want.

Are you interested in adding a new Linux kernel source tree to your system, and then compiling and installing the new kernel? Or do you just want to modify and install an existing kernel?

Either way /usr/src/linux will be a symbolic link to your current kernel source tree, which may or may not need to be broken (depending on whether you're installing new source or not).

A good HOWTO on kernel compilation/recompilation/installation exists here.

If you need more information, please clarify exactly what you are trying to do.

Iam Back

Thank you Mr.Perderabo. It is really a good link you have provided me. Actually i need to install Linux OS (only the kernel) and need to study the kernel and make modifications in it.

Thank you all once again...

You've got the wrong guy.... !!

Anyway, further to the link I gave you, if you ftp to ftp.<countrycode>.kernel.org, you'll reach the mirror for downloading the kernel source, e.g. in the UK, it's ftp.uk.kernel.org - navigate to /pub/linux/kernel and download the source from there.
