Is there any downside to using
/usr/spg4/bin/id
instead of
/bin/id
or
/usr/bin/id
?
Do specific patches need to be applied to install /usr/spg4/bin/id that are out of the ordinary?
thanks.

I have never saw /usr/spg4 directory before, but /bin is the only link to /usr/bin directory.
Also I don't think that /usr/spg4 is created by some patch, but I can't to judge. Is there any reason why to use /usr/spg4/bin/id binary??? If yes you can try only to create soft link to make this need satisfy.
There is indeed no /usr/spg4 directory but there is definitely a /usr/xpg4 one.
What that changes with the id command is clearly stated in its manual page.
man id
Sorry, I meant to write:
/usr/xpg4/bin/id
thanks
