So looking at the docs the s822 supports
ddr3 1600mhz cdimm and it looks like
Some of them are for 4u servers so cant fit into a 2u server like the s822
Still then can i just run the server without the upper lid? Idk if the ram chips made for 4u would work on 2u if you ignore the chips height

Asking if the ram is supported
If the technical spec. is identical then it should work.
But an open lid is certainly not supported because the air flow is distorted.
looks like the only the height of rams matter....
