How to change IP address

Can anyone tell me how to change the IP address on a unix server, as I have no idea whatsoever.

Thanks

Normally, by changing the IP related to the host in /etc/hosts - but it may matters what OS you are using. Post your OS and version for further assistance or search for your OS, change, and IP in the forums.

For Solaris, this post may help.

To change IP on interface you must use 'ifconfig', if you want to change IP for your hostname, you must change your DNS settings at /etc/hosts or your DNS-server configuration.
