How to backup and restore Linux uisng NIM.

Hi Friends,

 I've a hard question to ask. I have a NIM server running on AIX 5.3. Now my requirement is that , " From This NIM Server i would like to take the Image of Linux servers ". I mean that using NIM server i should be able to backup / restore the linux Servers.

In Simple terms i want the same "mksysb" function be carried out for linux servers. Can somebody help me on this...

You first have to make the Linux machine a NIM client from the NIM server. Once you have done this the backup function is from the NIM server to the NIM client.

Hi, can you actually restore a full linux system from a NIM server? just as you can with AIX ?

Yes you run a mksysb using NIM. It will backup whichever NIM clients you select. The easiest way is to perhaps put all of the Linux servers in a client group then you issue the NIM command to backup all the clients in the group. I cannot remember the exact command but this is accessible using the NIM reference material on the Internet.
