Hardware upgrade question

I have an IBM pseries 7028-6E1 server with a six drive bay that is currently plugged into the scsi backplane of the motherboard. I am going to install a PCIX Ultra320 scsi raid adapter, and swing the drive bay over to it. I am just wondering how this is going to work. Should I power the server down, install the adapter, swing the drive bay over to it, and power the server back up with the AIX install disk installed? The only issue I see with this is that the adapter almost would need to be recognized by the OS first, before I could load AIX, and configure the adapter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Our ultimate goal is to set up raid 5 for the data volume group, and be able to boot from the adapter from the rootvg.

IBM got back to me much sooner than I thought they would. Their suggestion is to boot from a hardwaredDiagnostics CD, and install the adapter before loading AIX. Do this seem like a valid suggestion?
