FTP transfer from Linux to unix box

Hi,

I transferred a tar.gz file from a linux server to a unix server using ftp.
In the unix box when i untarred, only few files with zero bytes were copied and i get "tar dir : cksum error"

Could anyone help me out ?

I cannot figure out exactly what the problem is ..

But, one good way to check about corruption of file is by. ..

do md5sum on the tar file in both the servers, and check whether both matches. If not then, file got corrupted while transfer. You need to try again...

Or simply check if you have enough file on disk.

Did you ftp it in binary mode? Getting .tar.gz file in ascii or auto mode also sometime cause problem. Moreover what is size of your tar.gz file? File size limit can also create problem.
