Failed Drive

I am trying to recover data off a drive that failed in my iMac. Apple returned the drive to me and I purchased a hard drive enclosure. I have been doing research on prices for data recovery services, way too expensive. I seen some links using Unix DD commands in the terminal none of which worked. Can anyone please offer some advice...

can you even see the drive in terminal?

I can see it in the disk utility but it wont mount

have you tried to force mounting it via terminal? If not you may look at data recovery software and the only one I have experience with is not free. Sorry if you are looking for a free solution.

If you can't mount it, then you can't read from it.

how do you force mount it

what software are you using

you can try to force it using the mount command or diskutil command in the terminal.

I use Prosoft's DataResuce II, which I have had great success with.
