Extract header from top command output

hi,

I want to extract and save the cpu(s) information from top command output, but individual cpu statistics separately on a multi-processor machine.

In command line, top will show this statistics when we press the switch "1".

any ideas?

not understood completely what you are trying to say,
you can save top o/p in a file and get the information as per you requirement with sed/awk/grep.

on HP-UX

top -s1 -d1 -f file

Linux:

mpstat -P ALL
4

the command will give combined cpu statistics as shown below:

Cpu(s):  0.0%us,  0.0%sy,  0.0%ni,100.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st

but i want it like when we expand the list using switch "1"

Cpu0  :  0.0%us,  0.0%sy,  0.0%ni,100.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
Cpu1  :  0.0%us,  0.0%sy,  0.0%ni,100.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
Cpu2  :  0.0%us,  0.0%sy,  0.0%ni,100.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
Cpu3  :  0.0%us,  0.0%sy,  0.0%ni,100.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st

the trick works!!, i may want to add sysstat package on all required servers.
