DVD for AIX

:frowning: hi all,

im using AIX 5.1 UNIX for my server..my server comes with no DVD drive..for our installation we need a DVD drive to run the application...can we use notebook(window+dvd) to run DVD for AIX server. Is that possible?
or we have to copy all the content in DVD to UNIX filesystem. FYI, the DVD is about 3 Gigabyte large..

appreciate ur assistance..thanks..regards.

I think that you should better copy the contents of the DVD to AIX filesystem. You cant use your Windows box.
To see what hardware devices you can install on your server (in case you are interested) check your server's announcement letter

That's possible. But you need extra software such as cygwin or Microsoft SFU.
This way you will be able to export your notebook's DVD as an NFS filesystem.

You are right, that is possible with other ways too, like samba. I prefer just to copy the data. With 1 Gbit ethernet it is not that hard.

yeah, but that way he will need to install SMB support in his AIX server and it's harder to configure

I don't think that's a question of bandwidth but a question of storage
