Disk Partition : Skip 1 MB

I want to skip the first cylinder (first 1 MB infact) while I partition my disk using fdisk as it is required that the disk partition to be used (for Oracle RAC Installation) must skip the first 1Mb to avoid overwriting the disk VTOC. The way I am using is:

   p   primary partition (1-4)

Partition number (1-4): 1
First cylinder (1-1305, default 1):
Using default value 1
Last cylinder or +size or +sizeM or +sizeK (1-1305, default 1305):
Using default value 1305

Can anyone please guide me how to skip first 1 MB?

Are you sure this is relevant to Linux? I would assume this is more of an issue for Solaris and not Linux. We use ASM/RAC here and have had no issues with starting from the beginning of a volume.

mark54g is correct, even i have 4 oracle RAC instances running smoothly...i dont think skipping of 1 MB is required...

Is this mentioned somewhere in Oracle doc ?
