is there anu way by which i can find out if all the disks on the system are working ?

for which OS ?
you can utilise the /var/log/messages or dmesg to check the output of your System screening during bootup if theres any Disc failure you can catch up on there. Run fsck if cant then change of hardware is necessary (depends on the type of the system failure)
