deleting file created from mysql

Hi,
I executed the query in mysql as
"select * into outfile "/tmp/result.out" from table_x;

which inturn wrote all the records in that table to file in /tmp directory.After this i tried to delete the file "/tmp/result.out", but can't able to do that.
Is there any way to achieve this.Please suggest

Your help is appreciated

What is the error message when have tried to delete the file ? What is the OS and you root ? Most probably you don't have rights to delete the file, do a 'ls -la' on the file and check the permissions.

Hi,

The file created with the permissions as
-rw-rw-rw- 1 mysql mysql 432 2008-07-28 14:36 result.out

I know that it is not possible to delete the file from my login, but from mysql it is supposed to delete it, right.

I tried the below command from mysql, that too failed with the error message

mysql> system rm /tmp/result.out
rm: cannot remove `/tmp/result.out': Operation not permitted

I am looking out for something like the UTL_FILE package in Oracle which have the capability to create,rename,delete operations on the files it creates...Can anyone suggest
