Career advice for experienced shell script coder, need help.

I have four years of shell scripting experience in AIX and HP-UX and have worked in perl scripts as well, the good part is i love scripting and so far i have been getting job offers as well.

The bad part is , shell scripting is all i know , so the kind of jobs i am getting is mostly production support jobs , if i am stuck with these jobs i think i will have a stagnated career.

Kindly give me advice on , the kind of skill set i should add with the current skills , that would that would help me get better jobs and a better future.

Thanks,
Harish

PS : i googled about problem and searched the posts as well , sadly couldnt get any answer , so had to start a new thread.

well, all is not lost, i've just got a really nice perl scripting contract.

I had trouble though.
maybe try C++.
java is popular.
look on job boards and see what's popular.
maybe linux sysadmin?

It will help you to advertise what the scripts did in management terms.

Unix Filesystem Maintenance, Database Stop/Start with logfile maintenance, User Menus, Operating System Maintenance, Routine Backups, Disaster Recovery Backups, etc.. etc..

IMHO. Scripts which prevent downtime are important but Disaster Recovery scripts are saleable.
