Cannt ftp my unix server through a browser

I have got this sco unix server.Last week we rebuilt this server and ever since we can ftp to this server through
a command line but cannt ftp to this through a browser ( say
internet explorer ) anymore. It has nothing to do with firewalls
becoz it was working fine earlier.
Any ideas??

It would be helpful to give details of your problem, meaning exactly what error do you get when you try to ftp using your browser ?

Is it possible that the directory you tried to ftp has an index.html file and you tried to type http:// instead of ftp:// or maybe you typed nothing in which case I believe it assumes http://

Or maybe it is a file permissions issue. The web server may not be able to access the ftp directory because of some wierd permissions ?

Please indicate what error you got, that might help resolve the issue.

Are you using anonymous FTP? Does the server allow it? Most web browsers, by default, will attempt to log in to an FTP site anonymously. Is the setup exactly the same as before?

My first guess is that anonymous ftp is not allowed, and needs to be re-enabled. Also check to make sure any usernames / passwords haven't changed, and make sure your web browser is sending the correct "user@host.tld" format for the anon password - some will send something like "anonymous@invalid", and some servers will reject that.

hi all,
Thanks for all the responses.
I got it solved .I had to copy 'ftpd' into this server from the one
that was allowing ftp.
So I guess that it had something to do with ftpd.

thanks
Ravi

I found this out. Maybe someone would like to know about IE for HP-UX.
