i have an Ubuntu 12.04 with LXDE desktop
+ i have command line CentOS linux backup server with my movies and music on it
i want to achieve this: easilly play (stream) videos and music from my backup server while working on my Ubuntu LXDE desktop.
How to achieve it and is that possible?
Were I in your position, I'd just use SMB (aka Samba) and actually export the entire directory of video and music.
Your player on your Ubuntu desktop will handle the rest provided you've got a reasonable network between the two hosts.
It won't do nice things like prebuffering etc, but on a LAN it's not usually an issue.
