Booting problem on Sun 3500

Hi,

I have a Sun 3500 server on which i installed solaris 8 and have also installed veritas 4.0 on it. i dont know why from the time i have built this server whenever i try to boot it, the server doesnot come back smooth.... i have got to connect a laptop to the serial port of the server and then then i get the console. So whenever i give a reboot command ihave to physically go to the server room and connect the serial port. And i also observed that there is a message that comes on the laptop. Its says something like keyboard is forceload.

Have i got to do any changes in any files for it to reboot smoothly?

Thanks in advance.

When you built the server, did you have a Sun console on it?
What is connected (if anything) to port A when you have to put your laptop on it? Do you have a Sun console and keyboard on it? Can you post the output of printenv from the Open Boot Prompt (ok prompt)?

I had a Sun console when i built the server. I have connected the serial port of laptop to PortA. I have a sun console and sun keyboard.

The server is up i cannot go to OK prompt. I can give u the output of eeprom

Do you get anything on the SUN console while it's booting?

Do you get any of the keyboard lights coming on while it's booting?

Have you tried replacing the keyboard?

Once the system is up, can you login to the server using the console/keyboard?

Normally, if the server doesn't find the keyboard, it normally uses ttya as the next input device. My opinion is that the keyboard may have issues. I couldn't find anything so far for your specific issue.
