boot server / install server

I have a compaq evo n400c. This computer has no cdrom or floppy drive. In order to boot from thumb drive i need to update bios. The only way to boot is network boot from my desktop.

I am trying to follow a guide
JumpStart Server Configuration ? Solaris 10

I am a bit confused at this steps.

Run the add_install_client script, and specify server and client information as follows. (Note: The following line of code should all be entered on one line.)

  1. ./add_install_client -c server_name:/export/config \

-p server_name:/export/config client_name platform_group

I am assuming that server_name is host name ,and client_name is the name i gave
the compaq. platform_group has me confused.

any ideas welcome
thanks kevin

you can only boot solaris with jumpstart... is the bios update tool runable on solaris?

platform_group would be i86pc.
Beware that the instructions you are following are incomplete and applying to SPARC hardware, not x86 which uses PXE for network booting:

no the update only runs under windows. cost more to have windows put on then it is worth. it should run solaris ok

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. will give it a try.
