I have a requirement where there are applicaions installed in Unix machine that has to update a set of Oracle data base installed in Windows machine, the question I have here is, which protocol alows Unix application to interact with Database in Windows env. and do we require some additional protocols from Unix side to be installed for Oracle ?

I have just started to swim in this big ocean of Unix, please let me know

Thamilzan.

Do you mean that the Unix server simply acts as some sort of file server for the windows PC and you want to point the PC to the server, start a command on the PC and update from the files? In this case Samba might be a suitable tool. If you mean to push an installation from the Unix server to the windows PC let us know more about the "applicaions installed in Unix machine"

Hi Shockneck,

Thanks for the reply, the applications that is installed in Unix are a set of Mercator maps which would pick up data from a set of Sybase and DB2 database and will be updating Oracle tables in Windows env.
