I have a sunfire V240 but nobody seems to know the root password. I can get into ALOM but not console mode. Is there a hack or something that cn get me back into this system lo reload it?

There is a faq article on lost root passwords. But you don't need the root password to reload the OS. Just boot the install cd...it won't ask for the root password on your hard drive.

Also to elaborate, you may need to type "console" to get a console on the 240, and also you need to know what way it is configured, ie for serial or ip access.

I have the serial port connected to a laptop. When i type console from the ALOM propmt it goues to the server console login screen. That is the password that nobody seems to know.

Then you are good to go with the option mentioned by Perderabo.

Thanks for the help. I got in with the cd. Had to upgrade from 9 to 10.
