A message from the Executive Director

Hello, I'm Hord Tipton. As the new executive director of (ISC), I would like to first express how honored I am to be leading the world's preeminent group of information security professionals.

This is a very exciting time in (ISC)'s history. As we approach our 20th anniversary as an organization next year, I hope to build on the tremendous success (ISC) has experienced in recent years and increase awareness beyond the security community about the contributions that you, the member, and our organization as a whole, offer each and every day in order to make the cyber world a safer place for all.

I envision (ISC) taking an increasing role in humanitarian causes. By sponsoring or partnering with various organizations to further programs like Cyber Security Awareness Month and the Childnet initiative, which teaches children about safe Internet practices, we will only increase our value to the community. There are also a couple of new programs in the works, about which I will keep you posted as things develop.

One of the strongest assets (ISC) has going for itself is you - our dedicated members. You are all ambassadors of information security, instilling best practices in your organizations and promoting security for the common good. I believe it is our responsibility as experts to develop professionals in all parts of the world, build upon our respected ethics program, and educate private citizens about the best methods to protect themselves.

As leader of (ISC), it is my responsibility to provide you the tools you need to more effectively and confidently do your jobs, to achieve career satisfaction, and to serve as goodwill ambassadors. You will notice improvements to our Web site in the coming weeks, which will provide more timely and relevant information. We are also working to enhance methods to help you further your career by offering opportunities to volunteer at workshops, increase your chances of getting published, participating in speakers bureaus, and finding the right job or the right candidate for your open positions.

We recognize that information security is truly a global issue, and there are some parts of the world where further outreach is needed, such as Latin America, Eastern Europe, Russia and Northern Africa. By working together, we can succeed in raising the profile of (ISC) and taking the organization to the next level as the leader in developing security professionals across the globe. I welcome your thoughts and look forward to working with you!
