0403-005 Cannot create the specified file

Hi,
uname -a
AIX sever3 1 7 00F9857E4C00

make command fails with:
The file access permissions do not allow the specified action.
xlc_r: /usr/vac/bin/cc: 0403-005 Cannot create the specified file.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 1.
But /usr/vac/bin/cc exists and is not a folder to write on it. Where make is going to create file?
Thanks.

The make command isn't producing the error, the C/Set compiler is (hence the message starting with "xlc_r").

My bet is that the Makefile (which you didn't provide) has an error in one of the rules and the command line is telling the compiler to write the output to that file. This is an easy mistake to make as the built in variables in make can be quite... confusing... so if the rules are using said variables, they can be directing output to the wrong place.

Another possible problem is using variables without putting double quotes around them. (A command such as sort -o $A inputfile fails when the A variable is empty as the shell removes it and the command becomes sort -o inputfile.)

Hi @big123456,

please post the output (or the relevant section of it) of make -d.
