virtual printer driver

I need a virtual open source printer that can print to a text file. I need this printer to be open source because i will have to include it with my distribution of a program i am building.

Just for a little background information, i am going to be building a program to run inside of a virtualized version of windows xp. the reason i need this virtual printer is so that a unix program that can only print files( cant save or export them) can print to the hard drive. So if i can find a virtual printer that lets me print to a .txt only and is small and open source then i would be very happy and this would make my life a lot easier.

Install a printer of type "generic/text-only", and have it print to file.

Where do can I get an installer for that or does it come by default and I just need to find it in the OS. How would i do this in Unix. I am unsure what version it is because it is a work computer, I could find out though if it is necessary.

I thought you were doing this in an XP virtual machine?

If you want a UNIX virtual printer we'll need to know what your system is and what printer daemon you're using.

Sorry that would be my fault. The program I am building is meant to run on a virtualized version of XP but the program that is using the printer is a Unix program called sked. Its used in creating schedules. How do I find my daemon and OS version? I am really new to unix and don't know a lot about it. I also think the computers that will be needing it are a custom build for a company. I don't know if that makes a difference.

uname and uname -a
