Unzip not working

Hi,

I am compressing files on my local pc (windows 7) and moving them to a UNIX server.

When I try to unzip file in UNIX server, it says unzip not found.
I googled and tried doing "which unzip". I find that unzip utility is not available.

Please suggest any other alternative. I can use gzip and gunzip (available in our unix server), but I dont know how to compress files in my local pc to allow gunzip. I cannot install any third party GZIP app for that purpose.

Please advice what else I can do.

If you can't install anything on Windows, you should install unzip on UNIX instead.

gzip and gunzip are not zip-clones, their function is rather different, stream compressors rather than an archive format.

The below command worked out well for me. Thank you.

gunzip -S .zip filename.zip

gunzip is not a zip-clone. They have very different functions.

As a result of this difference, gunzip is only able to extract the first file found in an archive.

you need to install zip application.

instead of which unzip, use which zip

zip -o filename.zip works
