My Ultra -2 Sun Monitor went blank one day ...
I tried using our monitor on another Sun , It worked fine .
So the problem would be with the video card ..
The thing is i have an Old Ultra 1 which has not been used for some time . I hooked that up to see the monitor works with that ..it works fine .
So my question is can i remove my Ultra 1 video card and connect it to my Ultra 2 . I have never done this b4 , so i wanted to know if i have to reconfigure anythin on my Ultra 2
I'm not sure, but I think the frame buffer cards for Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 machines are physically different, so no you wouldn't be able to swap them. Can anyone confirm this? I'll see if I can't look it up later if I have more time.
You'd have to look at the SBUS connector on the card itself. Somewhere on the black connector, there is usually some kind of sticker with a bar code and a number (probably looks similar to 501-xxxx)
If the Ultra 1 is usable, look at the output for the dmesg command and look for something that refers to the graphics card. What comes up here will tell you what graphics card it is. If it is a Turbo GX+, you will most likely find references to cgsix0 or something similar.
You should be able to use that card that is in your U1 on your U2.
I believe that's a TGX+ card, and is one of Sun's generic cards, so it should be fine.
