Single user boot

I'm running Unixware 7.1.3
My /etc file were either delete or corupted.
I'm very new at this, how do i boot into single user mode to restore missing files, can cpio work in single user mode.

Hit a key while the Unixware splash screen is displayed and you'll get to the boot manager. Type ? or help for help.

To boot single user, do:
INITSTATE=S
boot

Single user mode doesn't help.

This is the message i'm getting on the console.
UX:init:ERROR:Cannot open /etc/inittab, errno:2
execle of /etc/sulogin failed,errno-2

What can i do.your help is appreciated.

Is it possible to boot from the CD alone since the /etc is missing.
I need help urgently guys.
When i boot with the CD in the drive, the new installation menu appears.

Thanks RTM.
I've booted with the first 2 disks provided thereafter the system requires a HBA disk, do i use the one provided with Sco.
The "Readme" file says nothing about "HBA" disks.
