hi, I have an xml file and I need to replace the tags with different names all at a time here is what I have
<cevalue>
<cevalue1>
<cevalue2>
<cevalue3>
<cevalue4>
<cevalue5>

and I need these like these...
<cevalue>
<cevalue>
<cevalue>
<cevalue>
<cevalue>
<cevalue>
I tried a few but could not find sed doing it in one go.... any suggestions...please

try this

suppose the test u want to replace is in file test1 and you want the o/p in test2

$sed 's/cevalue[0-9]*/cevalue/g' test1 > test2
