REDUCE is a system for doing algebra by computerthat also supports numerical approximation andinterfaces to gnuplot to provide graphics. It hasa long and distinguished place in the history ofcomputer algebra systems. For comparison, othersystems that address some of the same issues butsometimes with rather different emphases areAxiom, Derive, Macsyma (Maxima), Maple,Mathematica, and MuPAD.
