Need FIX for: RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument

OK...I'm using the latest version of Fedora 10.

My network connection was working fine, and I had several network LAN shares on my desktop. Then I rebooted the system without dismounting those shares first. ooops. <:(

...When the system came back up, my network connection was gone. All connection data, such as ip address and netmask and the like, appeared to be erased. Even after re-inputting all the network information back in, even tho the network manager recognizes my network hardware just fine, the connection won't come back.

If I enter this command as the superuser:

service network restart

I get this:

Bringing up interface eth0:
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument

now, before anybody asks questions like did you reboot, yes I rebooted, yes I restarted the network, and yes, I've looked at the ifcfg-eth0 file, and everything looks correct.

Since the system is recognizing my hardware, I figure there *has* to be some config file somewhere that's wrong, or some kind of command that I can run that'll fix it easily, but I've googled everywhere and can't find an answer...

If anybody has run across this and has a *fix* for it, like a command or something, I thank you profusely in advance :)

...UPDATE: my LAN connectivity works great, just my WAN connectivity seems to be down. I can connect to any machine on my local LAN; I just can't connect outside to the public internet.

...I figured out what this is. When RTNETLINK tells you that one or more 'answers' are invalid, what it *really* means is that one or more lines in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth# configuration file, where # is 0,1,2, and the like, are incorrect.

So, THE FIX IS:

...as root, edit the file and comment out just about all the lines in it except the type, device, and hwaddr lines, save it, and then wait a few moments. If it comes back with a 'you are connected' message, then one or more lines in the file that you commented out are incorrect or unnecessary for the type of connection you've got.
