mailx query

Hi,
we are sending email after processing the file thorugh shell scripts(AIX OS) to set of users.

we are using mailx command to achieve this.
While sending the mail, from address use servername@domain, which we want to get rid of. We would like to use different name instead of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Have you tried '-r', ex. -r "cnraja@host.com"?

Hi,
we dont want to use any mail id in the from address as this is triggered from the system.
Instead we would like use "ITSupport".

something like this?

ITSupport="ITSupport1@domain.com ITSupport2@domain.com"

mailx .... $ITSupport

Hi,
After sending mail from the server, sometimes user clicks reply to all and eventually getting failure notice.
So we are trying to avoid using From address instead trying to mask it with "IT Support".

Hi,
My requirement is I have to send email using mailx command and the recipient of the mail should see a alias instead of email address in his mail box. The same functionality that we get when we sent email using an address book. Is this functionality possible through mailx?

If your IT Support group has a email address, then "-r itsupport@mycompany.com" is what we're saying.

we are triggering from the server and we dont want it to display the domain name instead we want to display alias name and
When user reply to messages, it should not send a copy of the message to from address.
Is it possible with mailx command?

I see. I don't believe there is a way to hide the account behind the name but then again, I've never tried to do it that way.

You could try using mutt, It allows seting the REPLYTO address, eg:

REPLYTO="ITSupport"
export REPLYTO
echo "Message" | mutt -s "subject" -a /file/to/attach.txt RECIPIENT...

Hi,
I am using AIX OS.
I dont think so Mutt can be used with AIX.
Is there any other option available?

We have mutt running on AIX 5.3 try /opt/freeware/bin/mutt

Or you can download from the IBM toobox: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/aix/linux/toolbox/date.html

Hi,
I couldn't find such file with my OS.

You could try imbedding the Reply-To: or From: headers in the subject

Try:

echo "Message" | mailx -s "Subject
Reply-To: ITSupport" cnraja@localhost.com

or

echo "Message" | mailx -s "Subject
From: ITSupport" cnraja@localhost.com

Otherwise you may just have to use no-reply@domain.com and hope your receipents are smart enough to realise.
