Does anyone know how I can upload a barcode into UNIX? I want to scan the product and load it into the UNIX system.
A barcode reader? They generally act like keyboards, not requiring the use of special drivers. Scanning in a code will usually type in that code then hit ENTER. Sometimes TAB. Some readers let you configure that.
Thank you for those responses:
I'm using OP2001 and windows 7. I have a POSX manual scanner that plugs into a USB port. I'm scanning parts so that when we receive them in they can be easily added to inventory with quantities etc.. This will also be used at point of sale, much like at a grocery store. The part numbers already exist in our system with a price file and matching UPC codes, however I cannot get UNIX to recognize the scan, it simply loads the digits attached to the bar code most are Code39 bar codes... Is it a configuration issue?
What do you mean it "simply loads"? What are you actually doing? What actually happens? What software are you using?
This sounds like a software issue, not a UNIX one, and not a barcode reader one. Like I said, most barcode readers will just type the code in like what you'd get if you typed the code in manually. If typing the barcode into the system wouldn't produce the expected result, neither would scanning it. You must have the software in a state where it expects a barcode to be typed in.
thank you that was very helpful
