I'm currently designing a degree plan that I hope will involved something with IT. I already have an two year degree that covers the basics of networking but I think that it would help to know some type of programming. I'm thinking of learning database programming but I'm not sure that's a direction that I should go. I don't plan on becoming a programmer though as it's not what I'm interested in. I'm not a big fan of programming to being with so I'm not even sure I should be thinking about it.I need some information about website templates and joomla templates. What is your opinon about this if i want to learn CSS and Joomla as well.
If it is not a passion of yours, then I wouldn't bother getting into programming too much. In our company we hire people for their problem solving skills more than command of a programming language. Knowing something about a program flow and being able to point out mistakes in someone else's program always helps, but you don't need to be a programmer for that.
I am not an expert on IT careers (only been in the field for about a year now) but from my experience, programing (as in writing a program to do something for you) is not super important in the majority of the IT world. Starting off in the field it would give you an advantage to have some experience with what I call navigational language.
Being able to do simple things through something like console, or command prompt (depending on what the IT department supports) just navigating through directories (folders) and using text editors. But most entry level IT jobs expect you to still be learning. Maybe job shadow someone in the field you want to go into and ask how much they using computer languages.
Whatever you decide just dont let someone tell you that you cant do something because of what you are or know now, human beings were designed for learning its what we do best.
Definitely is a must. It also depends which field you prefer most, if you want to be dba you cannot get away without SQL/scripting, if you prefer networking/system administration you should go for scripting and basic C - these are just examples the "IT" is very big field. You should choose you niche and learn what skills you will need.
