While trying to install mandrake I click graphical install and the screen turns black ... why is it doing this?
Here is what is going on ...
I downloaded caldera, but i didn't know how to install it so I borrowed mandrake disks from a friend. I installed mandrake but in the middle there was an error ...
All that I want to do is find a linux and replace that messed up linux ... can anyone please help?
What kind of graphics card do you have in the computer? What kind of monitor? Maybe mandrake doesn't support something you have...
I have NVIDIA GeFORCE TI 4600 with an NEC monitor, 1024 x 768. It also turned black when I tired installing redhat.
Pulling at strings here, but from what I've been reading, quite a few people have had trouble with both those O.S.'s when used in conjunction with an nvidia videocard...
Maybe you can find something useful here:

Sorry, I'm not sure what the solution is though...
Your right ... in the first link one guy was having the exact problem that i had ... with Linux and Mandrake black screen ... Is there any free linux that you recommend for me that should work for me?
Also, once I download it ... how do I remove the old linux from my computer? (Mandrake is installed but does not work)

Instead of deleting all partitions, you just want to delete the mandrake partitions. Be careful always when you are trying to mess with partitions!
Is it possible to keep the partition and uninstall linux. Then reinstall another linux then use the same partition?
Another question, I can delete this partition without messing with my windows partition, right? Because on the link you gave me it says delete all partitions and replace it with one main one.
Yes. You can keep the partition untouched actually and just restore the MBR (or even don't do this and have the installer of another linux distro overwrites it)
With some distro installers, you can select existing partitions during the installation and they will be erased during installation and overwrite with new partition.
Of course you can keep the Windows partition. That's why in my previous post I said you may just want to delete the mandrake partitions.
Okay, I'm just going to keep the linux partition and replace it when I install another linux. What free linux should I use?
That depends on what you want to use it for.
I guess I should not compare different distros on this forum, if I recall the rules correctly. Why not go to www.distrowatch.com and make a decision yourself?
