if i try to 'su' to root and enter the wrong password, the failed su is broadcastet to all user logged in on the machine.
Anyone know where i can stop that broadcast?

You might look in /etc/syslog.conf or /etc/default/su.
I believe that this may be a security measure by your admin.
I know that my systems when I or someone else mistypes the passwd, it emails a notification to me the SA.
So dont automatically think that it is just for your embarrassment or detriment.
ah i forgot,
its happens with every other user too, not only root.
i'll check RTM's suggestions later, didnt have time yet
