Adding a network printer

I recently added an HP deskjet printer to our Solaris network. I deleted the old printer which this one is replacing. I did everything in Printer Admin. I could think of.

The problem now is that when I go to print something out of Star Office, my new printer is not a valid choice from the drop down list (there are 4 other printers besides this one.) the old one is still listed.

Any advice would be great.

I have already pinged the IP addy and all..everything seems up to par. However, this is the first time I have ever added a new printer, so I may be missing something.

Hi,

Its not clear from your post that you have a valid hpnp software installed.

If not try the following.

  1. Install the hp jetadmin software. ( HPNP )

  2. Run the jetadmin and configure the priter. This requires the printer's LAN hardware address, IP address etc. And add the printer to spooler.

  3. Check the printer status using lpstat.

Hope this helps.

personaly i didnt use hp jetadmin. (i believe it is also discontinued from hp)

dont use admintool to add a remote printer. make sure you are useing lpadmin.

# lpstat -p hpqgait-01 -l
